Chrome Extension v2.9.3 – Install Guide
Version 2.9.3 is now available on the Chrome Web Store with major bug fixes. However, there is a known issue with upgrading existing installs. Choose the right path below based on your situation.
What's Going On
Version 2.9.3 (released February 4, 2026) is now live on the Chrome Web Store and includes major bug fixes from the v2.9 release. We tried to capture a lot in this big update — perhaps a few too many captures, if you will. We apologize for the bumpy ride!
The good news: v2.9.3 works great as a clean install. The remaining issue is that upgrading from a previous version can cause problems with existing capture data. We are actively working on a solution to make in-place upgrades safe for your data.
Choose Your Path
Option A: Clean Install from Chrome Web Store
Use this if you do NOT have any previous captures that need to be synced.
- check_circleUninstall your current version of the Forensic OSINT extension.
- check_circleReinstall directly from the Chrome Web Store. You will get v2.9.3 with all the latest bug fixes.
Option B: Keep Existing Install + New Profile
Use this if you have existing captures that still need to be synced.
- check_circleDo NOT uninstall your current extension. Your existing captures and data need to remain intact until we release the upgrade fix.
- check_circleInstall v2.9.3 in a NEW Chrome Profile so you can continue working with the latest version while your existing data stays safe.
- check_circleOnce we release the upgrade fix, you'll be able to update your original install and sync your captures. We are actively working on this.
Option A: Clean Install from Chrome Web Store
If you have no existing captures that need to be synced, this is the simplest path.
Uninstall Your Current Version
Navigate to chrome://extensions, find Forensic OSINT Full Page Screen Capture, and click Remove.
Install from the Chrome Web Store
Visit the Chrome Web Store, search for Forensic OSINT, and click Add to Chrome. You will receive version 2.9.3 with all the latest bug fixes.
Verify Installation
Open chrome://extensions and confirm that Forensic OSINT Full Page Screen Capture shows version 2.9.3. You're all set!
Option B: Install in a New Chrome Profile
If you have existing captures that still need to be synced, keep your current install and set up v2.9.3 in a separate profile. This protects your data while giving you access to the latest version.
Keep Your Current Extension
Do not uninstall your existing Forensic OSINT extension. Your captures and data remain tied to this install until the upgrade fix is released.
Create a New Chrome Profile
Open Chrome and click your profile icon in the top-right corner. Select "Add" to create a new profile. This keeps v2.9.3 completely separate from your existing extension and data.
For a detailed walkthrough, see our guide: How to Set Up a Chrome Profile
Install from the Chrome Web Store in the New Profile
In your new Chrome Profile, visit the Chrome Web Store, search for Forensic OSINT, and click Add to Chrome.
Verify the Extension
Open chrome://extensions in your new profile and confirm the version reads 2.9.3. You can now use this profile for new work while your original profile preserves your existing captures.
Manual Hotfix Build (v2.9.2)
The manually compiled hotfix build from before the Chrome Web Store release is still available if needed. Most users should use Option A or B above instead.
Upgrade Fix Coming Soon
Our team is actively working on a solution that will allow existing installs to upgrade safely and sync all captures. Once that fix is released, you'll be able to update your original install normally and retire the secondary profile.
We appreciate your patience — we know we tried to pack a lot into this update (maybe a few too many captures, you could say). We're on it! If you need assistance, contact us at support@forensicosint.com.
